Ways in Which Parents Can Cooperate with the School

How to get Children to like School & Help Parents Enrich their Child's Development

Every parent wants their child to like school, to become a success, and to be happy. Here are a few ways in which parents can cooperate with the school in giving their children positive, successful school experiences by providing:

  • Good inner feelings about school
  • Positive reinforcement through recognition and praise
  • Development of a good self-image
  • Awakening of wide interests
  • Inner motivational stimulation

Opportunities

  • To experience success in initial tasks
  • To work at their own rate, savoring the inner satisfactions that come from personal achievement

Techniques and approaches for

  • Increasing attention span
  • Improving listening skills and independent thinking
  • Preservering at a task until it is complete
  •  Experiencing satisfaction in sharing and finding that work in school is a fun place to learn

CO-Curricula experiences such as

  • Taking the children along on trips to the office, grocery store, department store, garage or factory
  • Trips to Museum Art Institute, etc..
  • Making the most of family trips, pointing out what you see from the car windows
  • Sharing talents and skills whether in the kitchen or in the shop

Good example of active participation

  • In school functions and later commenting favorably to your child about what you observed in the school
  • In the child's interest and games

A definate place where you child can study

  • Establish a home routine
  • Explore non-threatening ways of emphasizing the importance of learning
  • Help your child discover the satisfaction of learning for learning sake, not just for grades

Above all, take the time to listen attentively and patiently to your child whenever the spirit moves him to tell you about what he has, how he feels, what delegates him, and what bothers him. A parent who does not make a habit of listening attentively to a child during the preschool years should not be surprised to find that later on the child shares little or nothing with the anxious parent.
